A network storage system maintains copies of digital data across high-speed local area network (LAN) connections. It is designed to back up files, databases and other data to a central location that can easily accessed via standard network protocols and tools.

Traditional use of data storage was primarily for the server for which it was assigned – storing flat files, databases, user data and email.  But as technology and business have evolved, more companies have begun using data storage solutions for backup, archival and tier-based storage, as well as server consolidation.  As data centers become more cluttered with disk space directly attached to servers, your company faces a challenge each time you need to add or expand storage for an application. Acquiring and implementing new servers can become costly and chaotic for any IT department.

3Meet’s team of data storage solutions experts have the knowledge, tools and experience to determine the makeup and health of your storage environment and to ensure that you have the right plan in place for the future.

3meet1We’ll complete an analysis of your current IT environment, assessing the usage of your IT data storage, and designing a new structure based on manufacturer requirements and specifications.  We specialize in being able to consolidate and virtualize systems to keep your company running at peak capacity.

Data storage assessments enable you to have clear visibility of the storage consolidation opportunities within your physical IT infrastructure. Understanding your current data storage landscape to determine your potential costs and savings better prepares you to roll out a consolidated virtual infrastructure, a must in today’s data center. You need to know that your data storage systems are flexible, scalable and capable of supporting regulatory compliance requirements for your company’s continued growth.

3Meet’s partnerships with technology leaders such as EMC, HP, Dell, VMware, Microsoft and Symantec allows us to offer a full range of data storage solutions and specialized services for your business, while maintaining a vendor-neutral stance. Certified professionals at 3Meet are highly trained in the latest equipment and data storage technology offered by our technology partners, and can help you maximize your investments in the solutions you need to make your company more successful.

Two standard types of network storage are called Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS).  A NAS is a single storage device that operate on data files, while a SAN is a local network of multiple devices that operate on disk blocks.

SAN is typically used on business networks. It utilizes servers, high capacity disk arrays and iSCSI or Fibre Channel (FCAL) interconnection technology.  SANs generally require more specialized knowledge and training to configure and maintain than NAS.

Home and very small (SOHO) networks typically use NAS, which involves installing hardware called NAS devices onto the LAN via TCP/IP.

SAN / NAS Convergence

As Internet technologies like TCP/IP and Ethernet have proliferated worldwide, some SAN products are making the transition from Fibre Channel to the same IP-based approach NAS uses.  Also, with the rapid improvements in disk storage technology, today’s NAS devices now offer capacities and performance that once were only possible with SAN. These two industry factors have led to a partial convergence of NAS and SAN approaches to network storage, and storage appliances.
